Targeted Care When an Injury Slows You Down

A sprained ankle, strained muscle, or another acute injury can quickly get in the way of the things you enjoy. Whether you’re eager to return to a sport or simply want everyday movement to feel easier, it’s natural to wonder what options may be available.

At Hershey Family Chiropractic, Class IV laser therapy is one of the technologies we may incorporate into your care when we’re working with a specific, localized area of inflammation.

How Class IV Laser Therapy Works

Laser therapy might sound high-tech, but the process itself is straightforward. We use a Class IV laser to deliver focused light energy to a targeted area.

During the session, the laser stimulates cells in that area to produce more energy, with the goal of encouraging the body’s natural healing processes and addressing the inflammatory response. Because the laser can be directed to a specific location, it’s particularly useful when your doctor wants to focus on one area rather than a broader part of the body.

Sessions are also quick, typically taking only a few minutes.

When Might Laser Therapy Be Used?

Your doctor will consider what’s going on, where the concern is located, and how it fits into your overall care plan before recommending laser therapy.

It may be considered for concerns such as:

  • Acute sprains and strains
  • Localized areas of inflammation
  • Sports-related injuries such as ankle sprains
  • Cases where laser may complement other therapies

For example, an athlete dealing with an acute ankle sprain may have laser incorporated into their care to target inflammation in that specific area while they’re working toward returning to sport.

Depending on the injury and your individual plan, we may also pair laser therapy with shockwave therapy. Having different technologies available means your doctor has options rather than relying on the same approach for every person or every injury.

One Part of Your Overall Care

Laser therapy isn’t necessarily used on its own. Instead, it’s often incorporated into the broader care you’re already receiving at the practice.

Depending on your plan, you may receive your chiropractic adjustment first and have a short laser session afterward. We’ll explain why we’re recommending it, what we’re focusing on, and how it fits with the rest of your care before getting started.

That’s an important part of our approach. Technology can give us more options, but your care should always make sense to you.

Could Laser Therapy Fit Into Your Care?

If you’re dealing with a sprain, strain, or another localized concern, we’re happy to explain how Class IV laser therapy works and whether your doctor may recommend it as part of your care.
