Red Light Therapy in Hershey
When the Area You Want to Address
Isn’t So Small
Sometimes a concern isn’t limited to one small spot. Stiffness or inflammation may extend across a broader area, such as your back, making a highly targeted approach less practical.
That’s where red light therapy may come in. At Hershey Family Chiropractic, this technology gives our doctors another option when they want to address a larger area at once.
What Is Red Light Therapy?
Red light therapy uses a large light panel that allows a broader area of your body to be exposed to red light during one session.
The easiest way to understand it is to compare it with our Class IV laser. Laser therapy uses a handheld device to focus on a small, specific area, such as an acute ankle sprain. Red light therapy covers much more ground at once. For example, the panel can be used across the entire back rather than targeting one isolated spot.
An in-office red light therapy session typically lasts around 20 minutes.
Why Choose Red Light Instead of Laser?
It comes down largely to the size of the area your doctor wants to address.
When inflammation is concentrated in one particular location, Class IV laser therapy may make more sense. When it extends across a larger area, red light therapy allows us to work more broadly.
Chronic arthritis affecting the back is one example Dr. Epstein gives when explaining the difference. Rather than trying to isolate a single point, the red light panel allows a much larger area to be addressed during the same session.
You don’t need to figure out which technology makes sense on your own. Your doctor will consider your concerns and overall care plan before explaining why one approach may be recommended over another.
From In-Office Sessions to At-Home Options
If red light therapy is recommended, we’ll generally introduce you to the technology here in the office first. This gives you a chance to become familiar with how the equipment works and what an in-office session involves.
Our practice also has a medical-grade red light option that can be used at home. Once you’re familiar with the technology, we can discuss whether an at-home option may make sense for you.
As with the other technologies available in our practice, red light therapy isn’t about adding something to your care simply because we have it. We’ll explain why we’re recommending it and how it fits into the bigger picture.
Could Red Light Therapy Be Part of Your Care?
If you’re dealing with a broader area of inflammation and wondering what options may be available, we’d be happy to answer your questions.
